The G9 battery last for approx. 450 images, it's not much for few days of travel. I'd recommend you to take an extra battery with you, as batteries are always going flat when you most need them. I used two kind of batteries, an original Canon battery and a generic battery that cost 25$ less, as name brands are not always better. In that case I was wrong, the generic battery lasted about 25% less time then the Canon battery did.Of course that my next purchase will be an original Canon battery. For getting the best quality images with the G9 , it's recommended to shot in RAW image quality mode or the highest JPEG resolution. That results large image size = more storage space on your memory card. In addition, you may like to use the high video quality of this camera, again requires lots of storage space. So, carry at least two memory cards with you for your trip. I'd recommend on using Transcend cards, as it is a reputable Taiwanese company that makes memory products since 1988. Their SDHC cards are rated by speed using different "classes" class 2, 4, or 6). Class 6 has the fastest read/write speed of 6mb/sec. BTW, SDHC means they upgrade the older SD cards to achieve greater data transfer speeds AND capacity than normal SD cards. Make your camera see a wider picture. Some holy sites in Jerusalem are extremely narrow, making it impossible of capturing the whole beautiful place. Attaching a wide angle converter lens will be useful in those narrow places, making your camera "see" a wider picture. Converter are an additional optic device you attach to your camera. I think it is worth investing in the Canon converter, as it is a very sharp lens, you can see that when examining the image sharpness quality from corner to corner. But, take into account it is a very large lens, which makes the camera a bit bulky to carry around. You should also keep in mind that as with any wide angle converter lens, it will produce some barrel distortion in the image. However, don't worry, as we have that great Photoshop to fix it using it's lens correction filter. But don't get me wrong, it is still a great accessory to expend your camera capabilities, in Jerusalem's narrow places. It requires a conversion lens adapter too. BTW, don't use this converter when shooting panoramic images, it will distort your image too much. I always say to my friends to invest few extra bucks on a good bag to protect their camera. For the G9, I'd recommend you to take the Lowepro 60AW bag. It is a small durable bag that has room for your camera, extra memory card and battery. I like its durability construction and the AW (All Weather) cover that protects your camera. Please subscribe to my monthly newsletter, Photo Tips Jerusalem.
