Mary Magdalene Church
About the place | How to get there | How to Photograph it
About the place : Mary Magdalene Church is a Russian Orthodox Church located on the Mount of Olives, in the Garden of Gethsemane in Jerusalem. The church is dedicated to Miriam from Migdal, a follower of Jesus. Maria was the first to see Christ after he was resurrected. The church was built in 1886 by Tsar Alexander III as a commemoration for his mother, Empress Maria Alexandrovna of Russia, in the traditional tented roof Russian style, including seven onion shaped golden domes. The church contains the relics of the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Fyodorovna of Russia.
Photo tip - the church is located on Mount Olives, that is covered with trees. I recommend you to take a picture of the church through the dark trees, it will emphasis the church's shape and golden colors.
Here are photo tips
and best spots to take great pictures of the church.
Maps & directions : The usual approach is from the direction of Dominus Flevit church. Go out from Dominus Flevit church yard, and turn left. Continue down the street, until you will reach two green gates, one from each side of the street. On the right gate, you'll see a sign with open hours. This is the entrance to church. If the gate is open, get in and climb the stairs until you reach the church.
